Vasai-Virar gets 7 REs to fight fire

The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) fire brigade has got a fleet of seven Royal Enfield Bullet motorbikes to fight fire. The motorbikes equipped with fire fighting equipment was inaugurated by VVMC Mayor Pravina Thakur on Monday. The motorbikes fitted with two backpack type fire extinguishers with a capacity of 10 litres will be used for first aid fire fighting, especially in the narrow lanes of the city.

A water mist-based firefighting system is used in the spray of the tanks, which uses a very fine water spray to extinguish the fire. The water mist, when used in firefighting systems, creates a blanket, making the atmosphere around the fire inert. This results in effective and rapid fire extinguishing.

The compressed air foam used along with water mist enhances the fire extinguishing power, said a fire officer. Each of the motorbike has cost the civic administration over 5.30 lakhs. The two-wheelers have got all Regional Transport Office (RTO) clearances and is ready to zip through heavy traffic and congested roads.
