Royal Enfield has climbed into the list of top 5 motorcycle manufacturers in India, on the back of stupendous growth. And in the process, Royal Enfield has overtaken Yamaha India, which now sits at 6th position.
In the financial year 2015-16, Royal Enfield sold 4,98,791 units, registering a strong growth of 53 per cent over its sales in the last FY 2015 of 3,24,055 units. With this growth, Royal Enfield now takes position as one of the top motorcycle manufacturers in India, only behind Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India and TVS Motors. When contacted, Royal Enfield declined to comment on the development.
Royal Enfield's sales volume grew by 50 per cent in each of the past five years. To meet rising demand, the company is setting up a new plant near Oragadam, which will increase production capacity to 900,000 by 2018.
Royal Enfield too will be looking at ramping up some sales with the recent launch of the 410cc purpose-built adventure tourer, Himalayan. The Himalayan has generated a lot of interest and bookings for the bike have already begun. The best-selling motorcycle for Royal Enfield though remains the Classic 350 - with iconic looks, it still remains a favourite among Royal Enfield fans.
Royal Enfield has been looking at expanding its international presence as well. Currently, Royal Enfield operates through 17 company-operated stores and 496 dealers in all major cities and towns in India, and exports to over 50 countries across the world, including the US, UK and several European and Latin American countries, as well as the Middle East and South East Asia.
