A bike trip from Mumbai to nearby places makes for a great weekend getaway. And the the terrain sure does not disappoint. For Royal Enfield Riders in Mumbai, here is a list of places for road trips from Mumbai.
Lonavala & Khandala
Lonavala & Khandala
There is probably not a soul in Mumbai who doesn’t know about Lonavala – it’s easily the most popular weekend getaway from Mumbai and Pune. But no matter how crowded or mainstream, a bike trip from Mumbai to Lonavala is an experience in itself – vastly different than taking a cab or bus.
Some might consider the ride in rains dangerous, but the drive becomes extremely pleasant and refreshing during rain – just wear a water-proof jacket and you’re good to go. The surroundings are most beautiful and green during the monsoons and perfect for an invigorating road trip from Mumbai.
Alibaug
The Alibag beach is just one kilometer away from state transport bus station and PNP, Ajanta Launch service offices. It is spread over 3 to 4 kms to the west. From the state transport bus – station, the road winds towards the beach through important land marks like the market, Civil Hospital, Zilla Parishad Building, Post Office, town library etc. The moment you reach the beach, you have the sight of the famous Kolaba Fort. The beachfront has all sorts of eatables like Bhel puri, patties, ice cream, tender coconut etc. You can walk on the smooth sand and can also have a ride on a Horse – cart, it turns out to be a romantic ride for kids and the elderly alike. You can build castles, play cricket, walk through the waves touching the shore, have a swim when its high tide and walk through to the fort when its low ebb. The beach is reasonably clean, free from noise and air pollution, which make it a favorite tourist site.

The major attractions of the beach are Fresh air, Sandy beach, sight of the Kulaba Fort, Cypress and Coconut trees. You can enjoy Coconut water, Ice-cream, Bhel-puri, Vada-pav which is special dish of Alibag. Pollution free atmosphere is specialty of Alibag. The beach resort where you can enjoy a vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian, Chinese and Indian cuisine.
Kashid & Murud
Kashid is the closest thing you’ll get to a secluded beach at a driving distance from Mumbai. With a clean white sand beach and a few adventure sports, you can never be disappointed if you’re looking for a relaxing beach and a good ride.
Murud beach is about 40 kms further away from Kashid and it has a fort built in the sea – makes for an interesting watch.
Mahabaleshwar & Panchgani
This is the longest drive we’ll suggest you in this list of road trips from Mumbai but we’re sure you won’t regret it. Mahabaleshwar is around 300 kms from Mumbai, but account for the factor that it’s a hill station, so the last 50 kms take a long time. But the drive up the hill presents some amazing views, and maybe you can stop by astrawberry farm on the way.
With numerous waterfalls and dams, and a couple of forts, Malshej Ghat is one of the popular spots for road trips from Mumbai and Pune. Monsoon again is the best time to visit when the entire route is green and picturesque. Just around 130 kms, the ride might leave you wanting for more.
