Rumour mill: Royal Enfield readying 600cc

A lot of action has been happening at the Royal Enfield's plant that has cropped various rumours off late! Just a couple of days ago, there were gossips that the company may develop a 750cc motorcycle to compete in the global markets. But now, there are reports that a 600cc cruiser motorcycle is being developed by Royal Enfield for foreign markets.
After changing the perception of Indian buyers about their products, the Chennai-based two-wheeler manufacturer is now committed to work on its global image and plans for the big move. In a bid to explore new avenues, the company intends to compete with the international players.
Royal Enfield has already set-up a R&D facility in UK last year with which the company has made its plan clear for the overseas markets. According to the company, their current range of motorcycles are not fast enough for international roads. To address this problem, the company has been working on an-all new platform that is codenamed P61. The project is said to be powered by a newly developed 600 - 650cc twin-cylinder engine, which would be more about low and mid-range torque!
The higher capacity cruiser will first make its debut in the American and European markets, where demand for such vehicles is high. Moreover, there are also rumours that apart from the higher capacity cruisers, the company is said to be working on bigger versions of the Classic (codenamed D41) and the Thunderbird (codenamed D61). We would love to see these in production, however, nothing is official as of now!
Currently, there is no word on the launch of the higher capacity cruiser bike in India. Having said that, the Indian-two-wheeler market is increasing rapidly and such segment is gaining momentum in the country. Eventually, the company will launch it here but how long will it take to launch the bike is something left best to the company.
